The U.S. Supreme Court has announced in a 6-3 ruling that the Trump administration's use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to unilaterally impose tariffs oversteps Presidential authority, ruling that such power remains with Congress. The ruling, announced February 20th, is based on a legal principle called the "major questions" doctrine, which requires Congressional authorization of any executive branch action of "vast economic and political significance".
Please note the USCBP (Customs and Border Protection) system currently still requires IEEPA tariffs at time of this news release.
