New Copper Products Tariff | Brazil Tariff Increase

President Trump has issued a proclamation regarding US imports of copper products and announcing a 50% tariff to take effect on August 1st. The tariff will apply to "semi-finished copper products and intensive copper derivative products", with respect to goods entered for consumption or withdrawn from warehouse on or after 12:01 EST August 1. The list of affected HTS codes can be found here.

Also announced by executive order was an additional 40% tariff on US imports from Brazil, bringing the total general tariff to 50%. The president cites national security concerns as reason for the increase, which goes into effect August 6 at 12:01 EST. A number of product exclusions are listed within the EO, including goods in transit before the effective date, and products subject to the steel, aluminum, and copper tariffs.
